National Myeloma Awareness Week 2010 a great success

Thank you for your help in making National Myeloma Awareness Week 2010 an enormous success.

Hundreds of people across the UK joined forces during 21-28 June to raise awareness of myeloma. We are delighted with how the week went and extend a big thank you to all of our supporters.

Many of you helped to raise awareness by taking Myeloma UK posters and information to your local GP surgery or hospital, by setting up awareness stands and by taking part in the new TAKE 2 Early Diagnosis Campaign.

This year lots of you also raised important funds and awareness through activities ranging from sponsored walks and mobility scooter rides, to quiz nights, cake bakes and coffee mornings.

In total, over 80 awareness and fundraising events took place across the country. You can see some photos of the events in the slideshow below.

A racing start to the TAKE 2 Campaign

National Myeloma Awareness Week 2010 saw the launch of the TAKE 2 Early Diagnosis Campaign. The Campaign aims to improve myeloma diagnosis by helping GPs recognise the common signs and symptoms of myeloma. The success of the Campaign relies on our supporters delivering a Myeloma Diagnosis Pathway to 4000 GPs over the next 12 months.

Support for the TAKE 2 Campaign has so far been overwhelming, and we are thrilled to report that we have already reached an impressive 25% of our target. Over 1000 copies of the Myeloma Diagnosis Pathway were delivered to GPs, only one week into the year-long campaign. This is a fantastic start.

Our supporters were also successful in raising the profile of myeloma and the importance of early diagnosis on the political agenda. Over 60 politicians backed the TAKE 2 Campaign in the UK Parliaments and Assemblies, showing their support and commitment to improving myeloma diagnosis.

A big thank you

Myeloma UK thanks everyone who participated in National Myeloma Awareness Week 2010. We really appreciate your hard work and look forward to building on your success again next year.
