May and Ronald Hogg celebrated their very special 60th wedding anniversary in January 2013 with a congratulatory message from the Queen and a family party in Edinburgh. In lieu of anniversary gifts, they requested their friends and family make a donation to Myeloma UK, in memory of their son-in-law Ronald Meikle.
Ronald sadly passed away three years after being diagnosed with myeloma. May said, “At our age, we really don’t need any more things and a donation to Myeloma UK is more important to us. I was amazed to find out that Myeloma UK is the only charity of its kind to help myeloma patients and we want to support their work.”
The family arranged the celebration for more than 60 guests in a local hall. May said, “There was a hot and cold buffet including stovies, a cake and a disco and lots of dancing. It was so great to see the family together, it was the first time we’d all been together in ages and there was so much dancing, my feet are still sore.”
May and Ronald found that celebrating their diamond anniversary with family and friends was very memorable but also meaningful because they were able to raise vital funds and awareness for Myeloma UK.
