Introduction
AL amyloidosis and myeloma are both diseases of the plasma cells within the bone marrow and are treated in a similar way. Patients may have been diagnosed with AL amyloidosis alone, or, less commonly, they may develop AL amyloidosis after being diagnosed with myeloma.
Myeloma UK has a range of services covering every aspect of AL amyloidosis, from information and support to improving standards of treatment and care through education, research and raising awareness.
As part of our AL amyloidosis services Myeloma UK works with:
• Patients, carers and family members – to help them cope with everything a diagnosis of AL amyloidosis brings
• Doctors – to find better ways of treating AL amyloidosis
• Nurses and other health professionals – to improve care for patients with AL amyloidosis
• Researchers – to improve treatments, reduce side-effects and develop preventative and curative strategies for AL amyloidosis
• Other charities, government and the pharmaceutical industry – to ensure patients have access to and receive the best possible treatment and care when they need it
Myeloma UK provides a range of patient information booklets on AL amyloidosis, its treatment and management, and other topics relevant to patients and carers. Click here to download any of these publications.
Watch Myeloma TV where leading doctors explain more about AL amyloidosis, how it's diagnosed, signs and symptoms and treatment options. Also listen to patients share their experiences of living with AL amyloidosis.
