Four years running Sophie Tickle has organised a cabaret show in aid of Myeloma UK and in memory of her mother Janice who died of myeloma in 2006. In 2011, Sophie's fundraising events raised just over £7,000 bringing the total amount she has raised to an incredible £21,853.
In addition to the annual cabarets, Sophie has also taken part in the Great West Run for the past two years and has organised three very successful carol concerts.
Sophie's fundraising events are enjoyed by all who participate and those who go along to support. Here Sophie talks about the secret to her success:
As always, the evening consisted of a cabaret show, auction and raffle. The cabaret atmosphere was created by seating guests around tables which allowed for socialising and sharing the food and drink they had brought along. About 300 people attended, made up of small groups of family and friends.
This year we composed our show slightly differently to that of previous years, and took our signature tune 'Seasons of Love', which we perform at the end of every show, and devised our own performance around the concept of 'Four Seasons of Love'.
The show was split into four acts, each reflecting a different season. Each season explored a different stage of love and relationships: the passion and excitement of summer; the reflective nature of autumn; the breakdown of love in the cold, desolate winter; and the optimism and hope that come with spring. In addition, each act featured both contemporary songs and standards from a wide range of musicals that suited the mood of the season.
Between each of the acts there was a short interval, when Myeloma UK wristbands, cakes and raffle tickets were sold. There was also an auction to help raise more funds and guests continued to soak up the cabaret atmosphere and socialise.
Myeloma UK is very grateful to Sophie and her family and friends for their ongoing support. We wish her all the best for her fundraising plans in 2012.
