From a coffee morning to a dinner party or a car wash in your drive, there are literally dozens of ways to raise money at home. Below are a list of brilliant ideas to help you on your way.
Impress guests with your cooking and ask them to make a donation for a three-course dinner. In the summer, a BBQ might make a fun alternative to a dinner party. Or what about a bring-and-share supper? Invite three couples and ask one to bring a starter, one a main course and one a pudding and you provide the wine. Or a safari supper where you travel round each other’s homes for different courses.
Coffee mornings / afternoon teas are a great way to raise money. Remember, Myeloma UK holds an annual Coffee Morning Month in November. If you can’t hold yours in November, you can have it at any time of the year. You could even have an afternoon tea in your garden in the spring or summer.
Why not keep a Myeloma UK collection box in your house, and collect any loose change? Once the box is full, simply count up how much is inside. It’s amazing how the pennies grow into pounds.
Have a good clear out and put all the good items to one side, then invite your friends and neighbours round and see what you can sell them. Clearing your junk, recycling and raising money for Myeloma UK.
Invite your friends round for a sporting challenge in your living room using the Wii. Pick a sport, set an entry fee – you could use a bit of it for a prize or give a bottle of wine. It could be the start of an annual championship. Don’t forget something for the kids. If you don't have a Wii, do a low-tech version with whist, bridge, scrabble or snap.
Hold a tea party or barbeque and charge an admission fee.
Get friends and family to bake for your tea party, or by bringing along food for the barbeque.
