Myeloma UK welcomes the opening of the new Haematology Suite at Northampton General Hospital on Monday 6 February 2012. The £2.2 million unit will treat patients with myeloma and other blood cancers. The facility will reduce waiting times by increasing patient capacity and will provide a more comfortable treatment room, a counselling area and extra offices for haematologists and nurses.
Chief Executive Eric Low said
“This is a very welcome development and will benefit hundreds of patients with myeloma and other blood cancers in the local area. The environment in which patients are treated and cared for is extremely important but all too often isn’t given the priority and funding it deserves. We wish the new Suite every success.”
The 18 month local campaign for the new unit was undertaken by Northampton Chronicle and Echo and Macmillan Cancer Support.
