Emotional support is important in helping you deal with a diagnosis. It is very easy for patients and family members to feel isolated and strong emotions often make it difficult to discuss worries or fears with each other. It is hard to know exactly how another person is feeling, but by trying to understand and empathise with them you can help ease their anxiety.
There are many different types of emotional support and one size does not fit all. Emotional support can be accessed in a number of ways, both within and outwith the hospital setting. If you feel you would benefit from this type of support you should talk to your GP, hospital doctor or nurse or contact Myeloma UK where there a number of programmes and services which are available that may be helpful.
