There are a number of effective treatment options available for relapsing myeloma. In some cases, the previous treatment can be repeated successfully, especially if the initial response to it was good. In other cases, the myeloma may not have responded to the initial treatment, or if the response was poor, you may benefit from a different type of treatment.
In addition to repeating the previous treatment, there are several other options for relapsing myeloma. These combination treatments usually consist of a steroid and chemotherapy drug in addition to either thalidomide, Velcade® and Revlimid®.
There are also a number of new treatments being investigated for patients with relapsed myeloma in clinical studies. Many of these treatments have shown promising initial results.
