This research project explored the roles, needs and perspectives of myeloma carers, and the impact experienced by them as a consequence of being a family member, partner, friend or a myeloma patient. The project is important, because research into caring experiences in other medical conditions tells us that supporting someone who is ill can be challenging. As there is currently no cure for myeloma, treatment focuses mainly on disease control. We wanted to know what the impact of this was on the caring experience in myeloma. Knowing more about the experience of carers means Myeloma UK can develop and adapt the way it supports those looking after a myeloma patient. Our research findings have contributed to the development of the Myeloma UK Infopack for carers of myeloma patients.
