Virtual Fundraising Ideas

As the spreading of COVID-19 forces the cancellation of a number of fundraising events and activities it has been uplifting and encouraging to hear from many of our supporters asking about different ways to support us during these most challenging of times. COVID-19 has caused fear and concern for all of us as we worry about what it means for our own safety and the safety of those we love so your support is more important than ever before and we can’t thank you enough.

We’ve come up with some great ways to fundraise from the safety of your own home and raise sponsorship online. In addition to this, it’s important to keep active while staying at home so raising money for Myeloma UK at the same time is a bonus!

We’d love to hear about your fundraising plans so please email the team at fundraising@myeloma.org.uk and we’ll support you every step of the way.

Get active and keep fit with one of our virtual challenges

Step Challenge

Take on a step challenge at home! You could aim to do 10,000 steps a day, or make it more challenging and use the stairs in your house to climb the equivalent of one of the tallest peaks:

Slieve Donard, Northern Ireland
5,490 steps

Scafell Pike, England
6,180 steps

Mount Snowdon, Wales
7,120 steps

Ben Nevis, Scotland
8,810 steps

Mount Everest, Nepal
58,070 steps

Use apps such as Fitbit, Garmin or other apps on your phone to keep track of your steps.

Virtual Run

Were you planning to take part in a 5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon? You could still do this virtually. If you’ve a back garden or driveway you could measure out an area and run this to complete your distance.

Virtual Cycle

Use an exercise bike or bike stand to cycle your desired distance (e.g. Lands End to John O’Groats is around 980 miles).

If you decide to exercise outside please ensure you do so safely and observe the current social distancing guidelines.

Fancy something a little less active and more creative?

Head shave

During the lock down why not brave the shave, colour your hair a bright colour or grow a beard or moustache. Remember to take before and after photos to share on your social media.

Movie night

Get comfy for a night in and enjoy a movie with your family and friends. Add them to a video call or a group chat and ask for a donation and give them a virtual ticket for your movie. You can share your screen or use the ‘Netflix Party’ app so you are all able to watch it at the same time.

Houseparty
Google hangouts

Check out JustGiving’s Tips on how to get started with streaming apps.

Bake off

Challenge your friends and family to a bake off at home. Ask everyone taking part to make a donation to your JustGiving page and make their best creation in the kitchen. Get everyone to send photos of their creations into a group chat and then vote for the winner. Then enjoy your cakes with a cuppa and chat after.
