Miles for myeloma

Run, walk, row, cycle… it’s your choice.

Help make myeloma history by organising your very own Miles for Myeloma Challenge. Cover the distance in your own time at your own pace.

Throughout the year, why don’t you challenge yourself to get out and about with friends, family or on your own to take on your very own Miles for Myeloma Challenge. It’s simple:

  1. Plan your Miles for Myeloma challenge – walking, running, cycling, swimming or a combination – and set a timeline to finish it in.
  2. Register your event using the online form.
  3. Set up your JustGiving Page to receive a free t-shirt and get started!
  4. Don’t forget to share your progress and photos.

We can’t wait to hear your ideas. There are lots of ways to take on your challenge, so pick whichever way works best for you.

Go solo

Pick a distance, break it down and get started! Maybe you have been wanting to climb that hill for ages or just increase your fitness this year. Either way, set yourself a target to work towards – whether it’s running a mile a day for a month, completing a 20-mile hike walk in one  day or swimming the distance of the Channel in your local pool over the course of the year (that’s around 1,344 lengths!).  For those in the city, why not ditch the bus or the car and  get active for the summer months – ask for sponsorship or donate the money you would have spent on petrol or travel fares.

Challenge friends and family

Make a day of it by packing a lunch and heading to the great outdoors together. Take a gentle stroll somewhere scenic or, if you’re feeling energetic, up the ante with a 24-hour three peaks challenge!  Why not take on a coast to coast walk (like 192 miles from St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay), or if you have more time, cycle the 874 miles from Land’s End to John o’ Groats. You’ll find some amazing walks across the UK on the National Trust website.

Inspire your school

Go the extra mile at school by encouraging your classmates to join you on a sponsored mile during gym class or lunchtime. It doesn’t have to be walking either, what about a three-legged mile, skipping a mile or running a mile in fancy dress?

Work together

Get together with your colleagues to start a running club or a  walkers’ group. Get your pedometers on and see how far you get over the course of a month. If you’re having a meeting, why not make it a walking one! Getting outside can really get the creative juices flowing. Alternatively, set up a company 5k race in your local park and make things interesting by setting up a friendly competition between teams to see which group can rack up the most miles!

Make sure you add your photo and share your story about why you’re taking part in Miles for Myeloma. Share your page with  family and friends and tell them all about the amazing thing you are doing for Myeloma UK!
