Myeloma Diagnosis Pathway
The Pathway is a visual aid intended to help GPs spot the potential signs and symptoms of myeloma in patients presenting to them at their surgeries and to advise them on ordering the correct tests and investigations to enable an appropriate referral to a haematologist.
Recent evidence shows that myeloma patients experience one of the highest rates of delay in diagnosis, with over 50% requiring three or more consultations with their GP before they are referred to a haematology consultant.
The Myeloma Diagnosis Pathway is also available to GPs in Myeloma Academy, www.myeloma-academy.org.uk, alongside several other educational resources including two online tutorials on diagnosis and the GP’s role in managing patients in the primary care setting, recent evidence and guidelines on the diagnosis of myeloma, latest news and a report on the causes of consequences of delayed diagnosis.
If you are taking copies of the Myeloma Diagnosis Pathway to your GP practice, we have written an accompanying letter, providing background to the pathway which you can download using the link on the right hand side of this page.
