The Myeloma UK Fundraising Team has put together our favourite events and fundraising ideas to help you make the most of the summer, have some fun and help support the important work of Myeloma UK.
GARDEN PARTY OR BBQ
Why not raise money to help myeloma patients while soaking up the summer sun in your garden with your family and friends? Invite everyone round and offer refreshments, cakes and maybe even a BBQ. Have donation boxes out so people can donate.
Faith Douglas raised over £2,500 with help from friends Peter and Helen Turkington with their Tea on the Lawn event.
If you want to raise money with your family and friends, a walk is a great activity to get people together and involved. Choose a route which is right for everyone, or even split up your participants to take on different challenges.
Jon Missin organised a March for Myeloma walk and raised over £8,000. You can read his story here.
OBSTACLE COURSES AND RUNNING FOR MYELOMA UK
Running has always been a great way to push yourself and raise money for a worthy cause. From fun runs to marathons, there is an event for everyone.
Those looking for something a little different might want to take a look at events like Tough Mudder, Spartan or Wolf Run.
Muddy Myeloma for Myeloma UK (above) are a group of our supporters who love to take on obstacle runs in support of Myeloma UK. You can see photos and more from their latest adventures on their Facebook page.
Hop on your bike to raise awareness and funds. Organised rides are a great way to fundraise but you can always map out your own tailor made journey or you could take on the gruelling Lands End to John O’Groats routes.
Lee, Barry, Mike and Andy cycled the Way of the Roses and raised £3,290 in memory of Lee’s dad.
DESIGN YOUR OWN CHALLENGE
Looking to do something a bit different and still raise funds? Designing your own challenge gives you the freedom to tick an achievement off your list while also supporting Myeloma UK. Aim to do 10,000 steps a day or swim a certain distance in a month.
Emma Matthews raised £1,300 after setting herself the mammoth challenge of swimming the distance of a marathon in the space of a month. She visited 26 pools in London to complete her challenge. You can find out more by reading her story.
