Myeloma UK Communications team: promoting your story

Other News // 11th February 2019

Myeloma UK has its own Marketing and Communications team, which spans across social media and press to help spread awareness of myeloma in the UK.

We do this in a number of ways, one of which is by telling patient, carer and supporter stories.

Making myeloma history

Funding research, supporting healthcare professionals and raising funds are important activities that Myeloma UK do to help those affected by myeloma and reach our ultimate goal of finding a cure. Another integral part of our work is raising awareness. Raising awareness means that more people will learn about what myeloma is, identify the symptoms, learn how to live well with the disease and also support our cause.

How you can help

Sharing experiences and stories is a great way to promote awareness of myeloma. Myeloma patients and supporters have managed to get coverage in local newspapers, magazines, radio and even television.

If you would like to do some of your own press work, we have pulled together this helpful guide.

You can also get in touch with the Marketing and Communications team if you need some help or advice: 0131 557 3332/comms@myeloma.org.uk.

If you are asked to be interviewed about your story, we have a helpful key facts sheet that tells you a little bit about myeloma, Myeloma UK and key statistics within the field. If you are looking for more specific information, or would like to clarify anything, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Going digital

You don’t always need to target the press to get your story out there. Sharing your story or fundraising activity on social media is a great way to spread the word amongst friends and family.

This could be in the form of text posts, video or links to a separate blog that you update regularly.

How we can help

If you would like to share your story, then we would love to hear from you. Whether you would like to share your diagnosis story or fundraising news with local press or even on our website, we can help you put it together and even help you to get in touch with local press.
