Myeloma UK are delighted to have been shortlisted for two awards in this year’s Helplines Partnership Awards. Our myeloma nurse specialist Ellen Watters has been shortlisted in the Helpline Employee of the Year Award and patient and Myeloma UK supporter Deborah Gascoyne has been shortlisted in the Helpline Volunteer of the Year Award.

Ellen Watters has been shortlisted for her work on the Myeloma Infoline, a quality accredited, Freephone service that provides information, emotional support, and practical advice to anyone affected by myeloma and related conditions.

Deborah Gascoyne has been shortlisted for her work on the Peer Network, a voluntary service that provides peer-to-peer support for myeloma patients, carers and their families.

Speaking ahead of the awards announcement, Dr Sandra Quinn, Patient and Carer Support Manager for Myeloma UK said:

“The Helpline Employee of the Year shortlisting recognises the outstanding work and support that not just Ellen but the entire Myeloma Infoline team provide to anyone living with a myeloma diagnosis.   Ellen’s dedication to providing guidance and emotional support is inspirational and to be named Helpline Employee of the Year would be richly deserved.

As an organisation we are reliant on supporters and volunteers to help us continue our work and support anyone affected by myeloma and related conditions. As a peer network volunteer, Deborah Gascoyne is an amazing supporter and fundraiser for Myeloma UK. She is always available to share her experiences and support myeloma patients whenever possible and everyone at Myeloma UK is indebted to her for her outstanding contributions to our organisation.”

Reflecting on being shortlisted for the award, Deborah Gascoyne said:

“It is such an honour to be shortlisted for the Helpline Volunteer of the Year award. Myeloma UK recognise that having access to information and support is vital to anyone affected by myeloma and related conditions, and I am delighted that I can support the organisation any way I can.

The award winners will be announced at this year’s Helplines Partnership Conference and Awards on Wednesday 6 of November in Birmingham.
