About the Research Advisory Group

The Myeloma UK Research Advisory Group (RAG) is an independent group of scientific experts who provide knowledge, input, guidance and expertise to our Research Programmes.

The RAG:

  • Deliver strategic perspective and advice.
  • Horizon scans the national and international research landscape to ensure that our research is informed by cutting edge science and discovery.
  • Develops specific grant calls that reflect strategic priorities where Myeloma UK are well placed to add value.
  • Review applications for research funding and make recommendations to the Myeloma UK Board of Trustees.

About the role

The RAG convenes three times per year. One meeting per year may take place in person, with prior notice. All other meetings will take place online. Additional meetings may be convened as required.

RAG members are required to review papers ahead of the meeting, which will be shared a minimum of one week in advance. Members should arrive at the meeting prepared to discuss the papers.

A secretariate function is provided to the RAG by the Myeloma UK Research team, who work closely with the Chair and Vice Chair of the RAG.

Membership criteria

Professional RAG members will be expected to display:

  • Ongoing commitment to the aims and values of Myeloma UK.
  • Willingness and ability to devote the necessary time and effort to the RAG’s function.
  • Extensive research experience either in a clinical setting (including for allied healthcare professions), or a scientific discipline where they have gained in-depth knowledge of relevance.
  • A publication history that demonstrates impactful contributions to their area of research.
  • Prior experience in reviewing grant applications and research manuscripts that have been submitted for publication in medical journals.
  • Professional success in obtaining and running effective research grants and/or awards.
