The Myeloma UK Infoday team head to Plymouth

Myeloma UK Infodays - Plymouth, 19 May 2018, Crowne Plaza Hotel Plymouth

Myeloma UK news, Other News, Past Infoday // 24th May 2018

The Myeloma UK Infodays allow patients and family members the opportunity to learn more about myeloma and share experiences with one another.  The Plymouth Infoday held last week (Saturday 19 May, 2018) was the first at this location for over a decade, and was a huge success with over 70 patients and family members in attendance.

The event faculty for the day was made up of leading experts including Infoday Chair, Dr Hannah Hunter, Consultant Haemotologist, Derriford Hospital, University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, who presented the treatment strategies for relapsing and refractory myeloma as well as new insights and future directions.

Dr Hunter was also joined by Dr Adam Forbes, Consultant Haematologist, Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, who provided information for newly diagnosed patients, with Dr Simon Ridley, Director of Research, Myeloma UK, also on hand to discuss the latest research studies taking place. Kerry McKay, Lead Haematology Nurse Specialist, Derriford Hospital, University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, providing a session on dealing with pain and mind/memory problems. Ellen Watters, Myeloma Information Nurse Specialist at Myeloma UK, held a carer and family perspectives breakout session.

The Q and A afternoon session by Dr Simon Ridley, Dr Hannah Hunter and Dr Adam Forbes was also very useful as patients and carers were able to discuss the day’s presentations in further detail, review the latest myeloma research and also share tips and experiences.

The informative day was then brought to a close with a detailed account of a patient’s experience of living with myeloma provided by Carol Zollo.

Attendees felt that the day was extremely worthwhile:

“Thank you for a very enjoyable, informative and friendly experience” – Infoday Attendee
