Myeloma UK Research Strategy

Together with our dedicated community, we have been at the forefront of myeloma research for 25 years.

Our investment has been an essential part of the work that has transformed treatment and care for people affected by myeloma.

Since we started our work, life expectancy for many has quadrupled. But when you’re living with myeloma, everyday counts. We need to go further and faster because people affected by myeloma can’t wait.

This strategy sets out how our investment and expertise will accelerate research in preventing, treating, and living well with myeloma, and finding new ways to a cure.

Our research vision

Our research strategy has been created in partnership with people affected by myeloma and myeloma research leaders. We have brought together the views of 1,800 people affected by myeloma and associated conditions to create a new approach to finding a cure.

Our research will focus on the following:

Preventing myeloma

By identifying who is at risk of progressing from a precursor condition like MGUS (monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance), we can work to prevent myeloma from developing.

Treating myeloma

By developing personalised treatments tailored to individuals, we can make sure that everyone can live longer without the signs and symptoms of myeloma.

Living well with myeloma

By using research to better understand what people affected by myeloma need, we can improve psychological support, use better treatments and manage their side effects, and improve supportive care, and transform how people live well for longer with myeloma.

Change lives today

It’s only with the help of generous supporters that we can provide the best possible support and fund research that improves diagnoses, treatment and care.

Everything we do is funded by voluntary contributions, fundraising and gifts left in wills
